The course aims at providing current or future Humanitarian WASH Coordination Platform team members (both coordinators and information management officers) with operational tools and competencies to perform all tasks related to the 6+1 core coordination functions at national or subnational level in protracted and/or sudden emergency settings, building on an in-depth understanding of the relationship between Information Management and Cluster Coordination.

It put emphasis on the list of Minimum Requirements for National Humanitarian WASH Coordination Platforms to be achieved in term of outputs and timing across the HPC. This training focuses on the role of IASC clusters that are formally activated in the context of emergencies. However, many of the same principles can be applied in support of Government-led emergency or crisis sectoral coordination mechanisms.

 Learning objectives

  • Improve participant’s knowledge of all components and functioning of the Humanitarian Coordination System
  • Train participants to perform all tasks related to the 6+1 core coordination functions for each step of the Humanitarian Program Cycle, in both protracted or sudden onset emergency setting through practical exercises and simulations
  • Explore the practical relationship between coordination and information management through each of the core functions of clusters/sectors in order to improve coordination system efficiency and outputs.
  • Improve participants’ basic soft skills required for effective coordination

Target Audience

Primary targets of this course are staff and partners involved in WASH coordination at national and subnational level, mostly composed by the following:

  • Current or future WASH cluster coordinators and IMO (assessment specialists being a secondary target)
  • Governmental officers from ministries involved in the humanitarian WASH coordination
  • WASH partners staff supporting the coordination at national or sub-national level
  • UNICEF staff involved in managing WASH programmes

This course is designed for General/Expert level staff, so participants are required to already have basic knowledge in their respective specific area of work (Coordination, IM, assessment) before participating. To achieve the objectives of the training, the group of participants should consist of a maximum of 15 people from a combination of cluster coordinators, information management officers, and evaluation specialists where possible.

 Duration

The training will include 8 units, each unit lasting one week, with 6 hours of work for the participants during the week.

Méthodology

During the week, there will be synchronized online activities (two live online presentations followed by a live question and answer session) and activities that participants can do whenever they want (reading, quiz, videos, exercises...)

A forum will be permanently available to ask questions and discuss with the other participants and the facilitators challenges they have in terms of coordination.

Exercises to be carried out individually or in groups will allow you to adapt the knowledge seen during the presentations into specific contexts.

The exercises will be reviewed by a peer review, guided by the facilitator
