About the course

Welcome to ‘Gender-Transformative Approaches to Ending Child Marriage’, a course in the 'Adolescent Girls' Agency, Safety and Wellbeing' learning path.

end child marriage

Globally each year, an estimated 12 million girls – one in five – are married before the age of 18. While marriage is normally a happy occasion to mark the union of two people, for millions of girls, marriage is anything but a reason for celebration.

Child marriage is a human rights violation that denies girls their childhood.

It is both a symptom and a result of deep-seated gender inequalities and restrictive gender normsAddressing child marriage therefore necessitates a gender-transformative approach, tackling harmful gender roles, norms and power relations.
