About the course
Leveraging financial resources is one of the six programming approaches in UNICEF’s WASH Strategy 2016-2030. The overall goal of the course is to provide a learning space for staff to deepen their understanding of financing concepts and how they are related to WASH sector goals, to strengthen their capacity with knowledge and skills to engage with partners and to leverage public funds and private finance for the WASH sector.
Learning objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will be better able to:
- Identify WASH funding and financing challenges and potential solutions.
- Utilize analytical tools to decide on the most viable and suitable financing options in both rural and urban settings.
- Advocate for WASH funding and financing at national and subnational level.
Audience
- UNICEF WASH Staff.
- Staff who are interested in innovative finance or WASH sector approaches to financing are welcomed to join.
- Government, civil society and sector partners as appropriate.

12 hours of webinar, additional reading
Methodology
Delivered as a webinar series. Participants can join the online version at their own pace. Regional Offices and Country Offices are encouraged to organize in-person sessions on the case studies. Participatory, individual reflection, peer-to-peer learning, use of case studies and examples, and applicability in different country content.

- Session 5 June 1 Service provider perspective (skipping a week due to WASHNET)
