Welcome to the SBC Immunization Basics Learning Pathway

This Learning Pathway will provide you with some of the basic skills and knowledge needed to participate in the development of SBC and communication programmes to support immunization. This Learning Pathway is one of eleven Learning Pathways provided on the SBC Learning Channel.

Once you have completed the Learning Pathway, you will receive a certificate.

Learning objectives

After completing this pathway, the learner should be able to:

  • Describe the initial use of the nOPV2 vaccine.
  • Train frontline workers (FLWs) and increase the communication skills of FLWs for the initial use of the nOPV2 vaccine.
  • Explain the initial use of nOPV2vaccine (cascade to FLW level).
  • Explain how to roll-out cascaded trainings on nOPV2.
  • List the ways that communication activities impact immunization program goals, globally, regionally, and at all levels within a country
  • List the ways that Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) and the Social Ecological Model (SEM) can influence positive behavioural changes in immunization 
  • Identify the purpose, components and steps involved in developing a Community-Informed SBC Plan 
  • Use data to identify behavioural and social barriers to achieving immunization program objectives within a specific population, and articulate the communication interventions and goals required to overcome those barriers

Audience

This Learning Pathway is primarily for UNICEF staff and external partners who are interested in learning about the role of SBC in UNICEF, and how it supports immunization. It is an introductory pathway, which means that it will provide some basic information about SBC and immunization. This Learning Pathway is recommended for individuals working on immunization-related programmes and projects, including:

  • UNICEF staff (country offices, Regional Offices and HQ)
  • UNICEF partners
  • UNICEF and National Committee consultants, interns, volunteers, goodwill ambassadors and National Committee board members
  • UNICEF government, civil society and corporate partners as appropriate

Length

It should take you about 60 minutes to complete this Learning Pathway. 

Methodology

This Learning Pathway includes two required courses and access to the What is SBC? video, which is linked in the course list.  

The two required courses are:

  • The Front Line Worker training on the Novel Oral Polio Vaccine Type w, or nOPV2 for short
  • Communication for Immunization

Structure

This Learning Pathway includes two courses and the What is SBC? video. Once you have completed each of these activities you will be asked to provide your feedback on the pathway, after which you will receive a certificate.
