By completing this short course, you will gain an understanding of the key processes in the Humanitarian Programme Cycle (HPC). This short course explores the stages and processes in the Humanitarian Programme Cycle (HPC); humanitarian response planning and how this builds on needs assessment and analysis; funding processes including appeals and pooled funds; how to support partners in resource mobilization and how to effectively monitor the response.

Learning objectives

After completing this short course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose, key features and steps required in developing the HNO and HRP,
  • Describe the overarching resource mobilization processes, sources and mechanisms for humanitarian funding
  • Explain how to build the capacity of partners in resource mobilization
  • Describe the purpose and phases of response monitoring
  • Describe how to develop a response monitoring framework and overcome common challenges
  • Describe the purposes and features of the 3/4/5Ws and how to effectively use it

Audience

This short course is suitable for anyone who is interested developing their understanding of the HPC and the processes within it. People working in humanitarian coordination and information management, and those who need to engage with coordination structures within the humanitarian architecture will find the course particularly useful.

Length

The short course will take you about 4 hours to complete. You do not need to complete all of the modules in one go: your progress through the short course will be saved. 

Methodology

This course is composed of six short self-paced modules. There is a pre-course test which you can take to test your knowledge of the topics covered and a final assessment. On successful completion of the final assessment, you will be awarded a certificate. If you have previously completed the module that is included in a short course, it will be marked as completed and you will not have to repeat the module.
