This course, developed by PPD, in collaboration with PFP, SD and PG, is designed to support UNICEF colleagues across the organization in their work with IFIs. Our objectives include influencing financing to achieve positive outcomes for children and families, advocating jointly with IFIs, and mobilizing resources through direct and tripartite arrangements. It aims to equip all UNICEF staff with a deeper understanding of IFIs and the collaborative opportunities available to develop youth-focused policies and projects.

UNICEF works with IFIs to influence development financing; drive advocacy  priorities; support policy change; improve the research and evidence base; and enhance government capacity. Guided by our Strategic Plan 2022-2025, UNICEF is strengthening and scaling-up its work with IFI partners to help governments to leverage and optimize development financing to improve the well-being of children and their communities. The nature of collaboration with IFIs is wide ranging and reflective of the range of UNICEF country programmes. Partnerships encompass activities such as programmatic collaboration (including the provision of technical assistance, procurement services, and implementation support); joint research and technical exchanges across sectors; advocacy with and to IFIs; as well as leveraging activities to influence financing.

By the end of the course, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of these key areas and be well-equipped to enhance our communication and outreach strategies with these important partners.

Through this online training, you will:

  • Global Overview: define strategies to strengthen collaboration with IFIs, utilize HQ and regional expertise to engage IFIs on multiple levels, understand the distinction between MDBs and IFIs
  • Strategic Engagement: develop a comprehensive understanding of strategically engaging with these partners and identify key entry points and opportunities
  • Operational Engagement: understand operational modalities available for engagement, including through tripartite and procurement services agreements
  • Programmatic collaboration through PF4C: understand the links between the realization of children’s rights and managing public resources and reforming public finance related policies, frameworks and overall management systems across central and sector-level ministries
  • Identify key documents and guidance for engaging with IFIs
