About the course

The sexual abuse and exploitation of children is a violation of human rights and a health problem with significant consequences for health and development worldwide. This course is designed to increase awareness and knowledge about child sexual exploitation and abuse, including technology-facilitated abuse, and to promote evidence-based strategies and actions for prevention and response. The course covers policy, advocacy and a wide range of programmatic aspects and is based on UNICEF's evidence review and "Action to End Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation". The course was produced with the financial support of the End Violence Fund.

Learning Objectives

After completing the course, you should be able to:

  • Describe global evidence on the extent, nature and consequences of child sexual exploitation and abuse, including online child sexual exploitation and abuse
  • understand existing global standards and violence prevention strategies, frameworks and partnerships (including the INSPIRE and RESPECT frameworks and the WeProtect national response model), as well as a theory of change to prevent and respond to child sexual exploitation and abuse
  • Linking evidence-based interventions to create enabling national environments, improve service delivery, and support social and behavior change in your own context. and
  • Describe the remaining knowledge gaps and challenges for practice and opportunities.

Duration

Methodology

This is an asynchronous, self-paced course – you can choose to complete everything in one day, over a week, or over a longer period of time.
