In order to build the IM capacities of local and national actors or stakeholders, an IMO may provide personal, on-the-job support through formal or informal coaching or mentoring. This module explores the IMO's role in providing this type of capacity building support and considers ways to ensure that it is effective.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Describe the ways in which an IMO may be involved in coaching or mentoring colleagues, partners or other stakeholders
  • Describe the characteristics and benefits of coaching
  • Describe the characteristics and benefits of mentoring
  • Reflect on your own experiences of coaching or mentoring

Audience

This module is suitable for people with some experience of information management in humanitarian contexts who wish to develop their knowledge and skills further, including those who need to engage with coordination and humanitarian architecture on this topic.

Length

It should take you about 35 minutes to complete this self-paced course.
