This course has been designed to enable participants to become familiar with the CCD approach, learn about CCD implementation processes in various LAC countries, and discover how this approach can help strengthen different services serving children and their caregivers.

The course is organized into two parts. The first part describes the conceptual bases of CCD, which offer guidance to families in parenting practices in the context of the Nurturing Care Framework. The second part describes CCD recommendations for child development in children under three years old.

If you are a professional who works in areas related to health, nutrition, education, gender, water and sanitation, social protection, and monitoring and evaluation, among others, we recommend that you take this course and learn the basic principles of the CCD approach. We also recommend it for anyone interested in strengthening support services and programs promoting a fair and positive start in life for families with young children.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand Care for Child Development as an intersectoral approach that supports families of young children in developing parental, affectionate, sensitive and responsive skills.
  • Strengthen capacities and create synergies to promote early childhood development with the participation of the family and other caregivers.
  • Demonstrate the positive impact of this approach on sensitive parenting practices, as in other aspects of care, such as breastfeeding, feeding, hygiene, accident prevention, violence prevention (affectionate, and responsive care); inclusion and early interventions for young children with developmental delays and/or disabilities, among others.
  • Provide tools to work with families on activities based on communication and play.
