This 1-hour self-paced course introduces the foundations of Accountability to Affected People within UNICEF’s humanitarian work. It provides a clear understanding of what AAP is, why it matters, and how it is applied throughout preparedness, response, and coordination processes. The course is designed for a wide institutional audience and supports UNICEF’s commitments under the Core Commitments for Children.

Learning objectives

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Define AAP and explain its core principles in humanitarian action.
  2. Identify AAP commitments and benchmarks in the Core Commitments for Children.
  3. Describe how AAP is put into practice within preparedness and emergency response.
  4. Recognize the role of participation, information sharing, and feedback mechanisms.
  5. Understand how AAP is operationalized across systems, sectors, coordination fora, and partnerships.
  6. Apply AAP concepts through short scenarios, knowledge checks, and a final assessment.

Methodology

This course is composed of a self-paced e-learning using short videos, audio narration, knowledge checks, scenarios, interactive elements, and a final assessment. Accessible design following UNICEF disability-inclusion guidelines.
