This module explores what national information and data collection systems are, what National Information Systems (NIS) may exist in a particular country, how an IMO can use an NIS to extract data, and how an IMO can work with NIS to improve their resilience and adaptivity to emergencies.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose, benefits and key features of a National Information System (NIS) 
  • List different NIS that might exist in a particular country 
  • Explain what data might be included in an NIS 
  • Describe how a NIS can support the IM function for a coordination team 
  • Reflect on how an IMO can work with NIS to improve its resilience and adaptive capacity to emergencies (including in preparedness)

Audience

This module is suitable for people with some experience of information management in humanitarian contexts who wish to develop their knowledge and skills further, including those who need to engage with coordination and humanitarian architecture on this topic.

Length

It should take you about 30 minutes to complete this self-paced course.
