Course Overview

This course is designed to provide an overview of the UNICEF supply chain and emphasize the importance of monitoring it. The course consists of seven modules that cover various aspects of the supply chain process.

The first module will introduce you to the UNICEF supply chain and explain why it is essential to monitor it. You will also learn about the main features of the supply dashboards in inSight and their uses and benefits. You will also understand the importance of data quality in supply chain monitoring.

In the following modules, you will be presented with specific scenarios related to supply chain management, including defining the need, budgeting and planning, goods procurement, delivery clearance and inspection, inventory and dispatches, and the whole-cycle supply chain recap.

By the end of the course, you will have gained knowledge and skills in navigating the supply chain dashboards, collaborating with supply chain stakeholders, monitoring sales orders and procurement processes including product lead times, gaining visibility on estimated arrival times for goods, and understanding how to monitor stock levels and dispatches of goods. And you will learn about the importance of data in supply chain.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the UNICEF supply chain and the importance of its monitoring
  • Explain the coordination required between supply chain stakeholders
  • Understand the role of supply data and the importance of supply data quality
  • Navigate the Supply Dashboards in Insight.
  • Use of several Dashboards from insight in different scenarios related to supply chain management, including defining the need, budgeting and planning, goods procurement, delivery clearance and inspection, inventory and dispatches, and the whole-cycle supply chain recap.
  • Understand how to monitor sales orders, procurement processes, stock levels, dispatches of goods and grants.

Structure

It should take 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete this course. Each module should take 15-20 minutes to complete. The course is best understood if the modules are completed in the order presented.

This course is organized into one Introduction and 7 supply chain modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Monitoring UNICEF Supply Chain

  • Describe the UNICEF supply chain
  • Explain the rationale and importance of monitoring the supply chain
  • Explain the main features of the Supply Chain Dashboards in inSight, and their uses and benefits
  • Navigate to Supply Dashboards in inSight and learn about different dashboards and their uses.
  • Understand the importance of data quality in supply chain monitoring

Module 2: Definition of need

  • Describe the different planning horizons
  • Access the supply catalog to order products
  • Navigate the Goods Supply Chain Dashboard in inSight in order to obtain information on the past lead times
  • Understand how to use information on the past lead times for future planning

Module 3: Budgeting and planning

  • Navigate the Goods Supply Chain & Goods Order Monitoring Dashboards in inSight
  • Find the Sales Orders already created in VISION and determine whether they have been released
  • Explain the coordination required between programme and supply or operations staff

Module 4: Goods procurement

  • Navigate the Goods Supply Chain Dashboard in inSight
  • Gain visibility on the Sales Orders already placed and whether the corresponding procurement process has taken place or is still pending
  • Determine if a Purchase Order has been placed and released
  • Gain visibility on estimated arrival times for goods (TADs)

Module 5: Delivery clearance and inspection

  • Navigate the Goods Supply Chain Dashboard in inSight
  • Gain visibility on the Purchase Orders already placed in VISION for which goods are being prepared or have already departed to:
    • Coordinate the reception of the goods with the designated consignee or Implementing Partner(s)
    • Coordinate Customs processes with the office’s Customs agent
    • Arrange transportation to a controlled warehouse or Implementing Partner(s) with the office’s logistics provider

Module 6: Scenario 5 - Inventory and dispatches

  • Navigate the Inventory and Dispatches Dashboard
  • Understand how to monitor your stock levels and locate important information on your stock, such as expiration dates
  • Gain visibility on your dispatches of goods

Module 7: Whole-cycle Supply Chain Recap

  • Recap of the modules and all the supply chain processes
