Learning objectives

After completing this Learning Pathway, you should:

  • Be able to use the eCHAT toolkit effectively.
  • Know the humanitarian programme cycle phases (HPC) and be able to describe how the CHAT fits within the HPC.
  • Know the four sections of the Toolkit and be able to apply SBC principles to each.
  • Know how to conduct research to support community engagement in humanitarian events.
  • Be confident in your ability to conduct appropriate actions in humanitarian events.
  • Be confident mentoring others in CE/SBC processes in humanitarian contexts.
  • Be able to establish meaningful processes by which crisis-affected people can participate in responses and share expectations and concerns.
  • Promote the principles of AAP to stakeholder and partner organizations
  • Feel confident in your ability to challenge SBC programmes and/or projects that do not adequately take into account the perspectives, knowledge and needs of affected populations.
  • Support partners to integrate the needs and perspectives of affected populations into SBC programmes.
  • Include the knowledge, perspectives, and needs of affected populations in their work contexts, particularly SBC programming.
  • Build the capacity of colleagues and partners to enact research methods that uphold AAP principles.
  • Be able to create systems that ensure the inclusion of AAP principles across the SBC programme process.

Audience

This Learning Pathway is primarily for UNICEF staff and external partners who are interested in learning about the role of SBC in humanitarian events. It is intermediate pathway, which means that it will provide a mix of basic and advanced coursework on humanitarian events and SBC. The Pathway has been designed primarily for:

  • UNICEF staff (country offices, Regional Offices and HQ)
  • UNICEF external and implementing partners
  • UNICEF government, civil society and corporate partners as appropriate

Length

The time to complete this Learning Pathway varies depending on the elective you choose. However, you should plan to spend at least 1 - 2 hours per week for several weeks to complete this Learning Pathway.

This Learning Pathway includes four required courses and one elective. All courses are available on Agora and you may complete them at your own pace.
