This micro course is designed to provide UNICEF staff and partners with a concise yet comprehensive understanding of the four core humanitarian principles: Humanity, Neutrality, Impartiality, and Independence. Through this course, participants will not only learn the definitions of these principles but also how they can be applied in specific contexts.

Learning objectives

At the end of this course you will be able to:

    • Define and Understand the Core Humanitarian Principles: 

    • Clearly articulate the definitions of the four core humanitarian principles: Humanity, Neutrality, Impartiality, and Independence. 

    • Analyze the Application of Each Principle: 

    • Identify real-world scenarios and case studies where each humanitarian principle has been applied. 

    • Examine the challenges and ethical dilemmas faced when adhering to these principles in diverse operational environments.

    • UNICEF staff (country offices, Regional Offices and HQ) 

    • UNICEF partners 

    • UNICEF and National Committee consultants, interns, volunteers, goodwill ambassadors and National Committee board members 

Length

           It should take you about 30 minutes to complete this self-paced course. 

Methodology

          This course is composed of an introduction, two short self-paced modules, and a final section testing the newly acquired knowledge.
